Londonthorpe & Harrowby Without Parish Council Open Evening 2024
The Parish Council held their Annual Open Evening at the Belmont Community Primary School, and it was quite well attended.
Most of the Parish Councillors were in attendance along with LCC & SKDC Councillor Linda Wootten and SKDC Councillor Phil Gadd, all of whom were able to answer many questions raised during the evening.
The focus of most parishioners was the plethora of solar farms planned around our parish. The one causing most concern is the one called Ash Tree Farm which lies between the Belmont Woods and the High Dyke and in direct view of the conservation village of Londonthorpe. This one intends to bring their power cables down High Road through the village. The other two Church Lane Welby and Pasture Farm near the Barkston airfield do not cause as much concern as they are bringing their cables across fields. The combined effect though of all three going ahead would be overpowering to the area.
The Highlights of the Evening, of course were the Tom Childs Award and the Best Kept Gardens Awards.
This year Nancy Ellerby was recognised for her work to enhance the quality of visits to the Londonthorpe Woods. She spends an awful lot of her time volunteering picking up litter and dog faeces on the site. She received a cheque for £250 to give to her nominated charity the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance. She also received a Certificate The well-deserved winner was presented with her award by the Council Chair Carol Markham.
